„The Glenkeen Variations: ArtNature/NatureArt“

The extensive landscape garden Glenkeen Garden in West Cork, Ireland, was designed by Ulrike Crespo (1950-2019) and has been the location of an artist-in-residence programme of the Crespo Foundation since 2021. The works developed by the artists invited there will be shown together for the first time in an exhibition entitled ‘The Glenkeen Variations: ArtNature/NatureArt’ from 12 October.

Glenkeen Garden served as an artistic laboratory for the artists to explore the themes of ‘ArtNature/NatureArt’ and the relationship between humans and nature. This resulted in a variety of artistic approaches in different media - from music and performance to film, painting and media art. Very different tools are used, including microphones, UV filters, tin pots, brushes and compost thermometers.

In addition, composers and sound artists captured the hidden soundscape of Glenkeen by recording the voices of flowers, water, seals, birds and insects. The ‘Sounds of Glenkeen’ were born.
