Seit 2021 lädt die „Glenkeen Garden Residency“ unter dem Motto „ArtNature/NatureArt“ verschiedene Gruppen und Einzelkünstler:innen in die einzigartige Umgebung der Roaringwater Bay, West Cork, Irland, ein. In der Gesprächsreihe stellen die Künstler:innen ihre Arbeiten und Recherchen vor, die sie während ihrer Residency entwickelt haben. Die Auftaktausstellung des Residency-Programms wird diesen Herbst in Frankfurt im neuen Crespo-Haus in der Weißfrauenstraße zu sehen sein.

Das Maolaigh-Projekt erforscht unterdrückte Stimmen in Irland, indem es Verflechtungen von Gender, Ökologie, Kolonialismus, Religion und psychischer Gesundheit durch die Perspektive von drei Hauptfiguren aus dem O’Malley-Clan untersucht: Filmemacher:in Doireann O’Malley, Doireanns Großmutter, Margaret O’Malley, und die historische Figur der Piratenkönigin und Nationalheldin Grainne Mhaol. Auf ihren Reisen zu persönlich und historisch bedeutenden Orten im Westen Irlands führen Doireann O’Malley und die Forscherin Elisa T. Bertuzzo reale und spekulative Gespräche mit menschlichen und übermenschlichen Akteur:innen.

Artist Talks Glenkeen Garden Residencies with Doireann O’Malley & Elisa T. Bertuzzo

The Crespo Foundation is delighted to continue the series of artist talks featuring Glenkeen Garden residents. Located in Roaringwater Bay in West Cork, Ireland, the Glenkeen Garden Residency has been active since 2021, welcoming diverse groups and individual artists in this unique setting under the motto “ArtNature/NatureArt”. In the talk series, the artists will showcase the work and research developed during their residency. The inaugural exhibition of the residency program will open in Frankfurt this Autumn at the new Crespo House at Weißfrauenstraße.

The project Maolaigh explores silenced voices in Ireland within the entanglements of gender, ecology, colonialism, religion, and mental health through the lens of three main protagonists of the O’Malley clan: filmmaker Doireann O’Malley, Doireann’s grandmother Margaret O’Malley, and the historical figure of the pirate queen and national heroine Grainne Mhaol. By revisiting personal and historically significant locations in the west of Ireland, Doireann O’Malley and researcher Elisa T. Bertuzzo engage in real and speculative conversations with human and more-thanhuman actors.
