A bread and butter workshop with artists Max Brück, Yulia Carolin Kothe and Katerina Sidorova, baker Ida Wetekam, car mechanic Emma Wetekam and radio maker & DJ Andy Norstrom.

For the finissage event, artists Yulia Carolin Kothe, Katerina Sidorova and Max Brück invite you to gather around their installation for a sensory happening that blends the warmth of shared baking with the mysterious soundscapes of the bog. Featuring bakers Emma and Ida Wetekam alongside radio maker and DJ Andy Norstrom, this event will awaken your senses and spark your imagination.
At the heart of the event is the artists’ installation, where Katerina, Yulia und Max present sculptural objects inspired by archaeological ‘moor butter’ vessels, set in a bog-like landscape.
As a starter, Emma and Ida will guide you through the hands-on process of making (and enjoying) fresh bread and butter. Their shared love for baking and connection to the craft of baking promises a cosy and delicious experience.

Afterwards, immerse yourself in a soundscape listening session with Andy, whose performance will take you on a journey through the mythical depths of the bog, featuring swamp field recordings and experimental electronic compositions. He will perform a sound collage inspired by the psycho-acoustic properties of peat bogs, with their inky black waters and quaking sphagnum as portals to other dimensions. Expect slippery biophonics, swamp recordings, rudimentary half-songs and deeply weird electronic derivés into bog country.

Bring your curiosity, your appetite, and be prepared to explore new dimensions of taste and sound!

Maximum number of participants: 25
Prior registration is kindly requested.

Emma and Ida Wetekam are two sisters who are also best friends. They have shared a passion for baking since childhood and love being in the kitchen together. Emma, a master car mechanic who is creative and full of ideas, and Ida, a master baker with an in-depth knowledge of baking, complement each other perfectly. Together they create delicious treats - always accompanied by a good cup of coffee. For both of them, baking is not just a craft, but a shared joy that connects them and that they love to share with others.

Andy Norstrom is a radio maker, DJ and researcher with an interest in the relationship between sound, landscape, time and myth-making. Holding residencies on radio stations in the Netherlands, his DJ sets combine speculative fiction with sound art, field recording and (psychedelic) folk and traditional music.

As part of the exhibition ‘The Glenkeen Variations: ArtNature/NatureArt', artists Kristin Reiman and Filippa Pettersson will guide you through their 'Museum of Termitology and Sculpture'. They describe what you can expect as follows:

'During this 30-minute tour, you will receive an introduction to the two current exhibitions at the Museum of Termitology and Sculpture-Plastic as well as a general overview of our magnificent premises. This tour is also attended by presidents, aristocrats and celebrities when they come to the Crespo House.'

Abécédaire of Fringes
Book Presentation with Lorenzo Rebediani, Vera Scaccabarozzi, Luca Trevisani and Francesca Verga

An Abécédaire of Fringes is a book published by Bruno and written by Lorenzo Rebediani, Vera Scaccabarozzi, Luca Trevisani and Francesca Verga. The book is the result of the research period and conversations by the authors between the land, sea and people at Glenkeen Garden, Ireland, during their residency in 2023. Planned and conceived as a collective writing, the abécédaire comprehends multidisciplinary original contents on fringes, fluid places in which we can observe and describe the ever changing relationship between environments, landscapes, cultures, plants, things, and systems.

The index and structure of the book follow the project by Richard Long, A Moved Line in Japan (1983): picking up, carrying, placing one thing to another. As a walk from one place to another, structured as an assemblage of images, things, words and discourses.

In conversation with curator Ben Livne Weitzman, the artists and researchers will share insights into the creative process of the publication with the audience.

The book presentation will take place at Crespo Studio. Prior registration is not required. Admission is free.

About ‘The Glenkeen Variations: ArtNature/NatureArt’

Glenkeen Garden is a landscape park on Roaringwater Bay in West Cork, Ireland, designed by Ulrike Crespo. Since 2021, it has been the location of our Artist in Residence programme, the results of which are shown for the first time in ‘Glenkeen Variations’.

‘The Glenkeen Variations: ArtNature/NatureArt’ marks a premiere in two senses. It is the first exhibition of the first phase of the Glenkeen Garden Residencies and the first exhibition in the open space of the new Crespo Haus in Frankfurt.
