SABA Bildungsstipendien für Migrant:innen

2023 WELCOME AND FAREWELL CELEBRATIONS

On the way to a self-determined future

One characteristic shared by all SABA scholarship holders is their burning desire for education and personal fulfilment.

The participants – women and men alike – spare no efforts in developing their own future prospects. A total of 42 SABA graduates completed their school certificates in 2023. Congratulations to them all! And we’re delighted to welcome so many new scholarship holders to the SABA programme.

At the welcome and farewell party for the SABA educational scholarships in September we bid a festive goodbye to the graduates and welcomed the new intake of scholarship holders into the SABA family.

SABA educational scholarships

Whether it’s because they don’t speak enough German or due to socio-economic barriers or discrimination: the people in our society who have a background of migration or displacement are particularly disadvantaged, especially if they don’t have a recognised educational qualification. That’s why we set up the SABA programme in 2006, supporting and accompanying people who have experienced migration or displacement to acquire a school qualification as mature students, via a process known as the ‘zweiter Bildungsweg’.

The key notion behind SABA is that empowering measures such as coaching sessions, workshops and childcare facilities as well as financial resources can create the right opportunity for scholarship holders to develop and pursue their own educational goals.

Kevser, SABA scholarship holder since 2022, about SABA

‘I’m 45 years old. The last time I was allowed to attend school I was eleven. I’ve been yearning for education since then. My dream of being able to go to school again will now be possible thanks to SABA. SABA is like one big family that gets its strength from its participants.’
