SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

Student Airlift Afghanistan

The Taliban government has banned women from attending university in Afghanistan, and female graduates can no longer work. Emigrating is virtually impossible and would present a huge financial burden. Student Airlift Afghanistan brings female students from Afghanistan to Germany so that they can study computer science here.

A new life in Germany

Each year, ten Afghan women are accepted onto the Student Airlift Afghanistan scholarship programme. As a first step, the highly motivated young women receive assistance to improve their English skills, which they will need to study computer science. Then the programme helps them to secure a place on a computer science course, organise a visa, and successfully leave the country in the face of challenging political conditions.

Once the Afghan students have arrived in Germany they have to find accommodation, get involved with university life, complete vocational internships and ultimately graduate from their computer science degree. Throughout this process, which takes three to four years, the students are supported by mentors from the Imagine Foundation.
