Studiojahr Schauspiel was specially developed for the third year of the four-year diploma programme in drama at Hesse’s state drama school, the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK). Budding actors in their third year at HfMDK can get hands-on experience of theatre life: over a theatrical season they can stand on stage for new productions, revivals, plays for schools or a Christmas fairy tale – all accompanied by experienced mentors.

A production mounted by that year’s students is also a fixture in the programme. This allows students to amass practical stage experience, extend their professional network, and facilitate the launch of their careers as actors. The theatres benefit too: they have more choice when casting young characters and get the opportunity to discover new talent.
